Monday 29th May

This was to be our rest day to allow ourselves, and especially Nig, to recover from the long ride down.

Nig had also mentioned that on the way down his brakes weren’t the best at the moment. This was not good as we were about to do mountain passes for which you definitely need brakes! We decided bleeding his brakes would be a good idea.

We'd seen a Moto Guzzi parked in the drive of a house over the road from the campsite so we went over to ask if he had a clear tube for bleeding brakes. He was a top bloke and lent us the job-lot, fluid, pipe and a container to put the old fluid in.

After bleeding Nig’s brakes the bloke invited us round to have a look at his other bike, a limited edition Bimoto - he said there were only 25 in the world and he was in the Bimoto book as an owner of one of their historic models. He wheeled it out and even let us sit on it - which was very worrying as it had a spring side stand and I was paranoid about dropping it! As we were leaving he said we could pop round for coffee any time - friendly gizza!

It had been cloudy and quite chilly all morning but by the time we left Mr. Bimoto it was raining heavily. We were going to have a look round the local area on the bikes, but decided with the weather to just jump on a train and have a look round the local town; Kreuzlingen.

We got into the town and found the nearest shopping centre. We bought some essentials; a bit of food, coffee, and a sewing kit to sew a zip onto my jacket so it would zip to my pants. We bought some lovely cakes - which was lucky as it turned out to be the only thing we'd eat all day, as we next found a bar.

Our intention was to have one or two beers and then get back to the site. This didn't happen. We ended up having many, many beer and a couple of shots of something or other. It was a brilliant day/night, but I think we went a little overboard. I do not remember getting back to the tent - I don't even remember getting on the train to go back to the site!
