Saturday 3rd June - Mainz to Rotterdam (436 km)
Woke up to glorious sunshine again. I got out of my tent only to discover Nig was already up and packed!
Daz and I slowly packed up and we set off for around 8:30. It was a long, uneventful ride, but it was nice to be riding in the sunshine for a change - I even got to wear my new sunglasses for the second time this trip!
After many hours riding we arrived at Rotterdam. Nig had spend most of the last hour stood on his pegs because he could no longer bear to sit on his seat!
We arrived at the docks early so spent most of the afternoon sat at the side of the road waiting to board. When we did finally board, me and Nig got put in the overflow part of the deck, the reason we were given was that our bikes were narrower than the others - they obviously didn't look at Nig's world widest Ninja at all. Unfortunately the overflow part didn’t have a good points for securing the bikes and I was having real trouble tying the Hornet down. Then a friendly Dutch ferry worker came to my rescue, fashioning a ratchet strap from a single piece of rope!
We got the boarding cards and cabin tickets and found we were in two cabins. Two in one twin room and one of us in another twin room. We had been told the ferry was fully booked, so there was a good chance the person on their own would be sharing with a stranger. I drew the short straw and ended up on my own, potentially sharing. Much to Nig’s and Daz's disgust, nobody did end up in my room and I had the cabin to myself - while the other two had to put up with each others snoring!
We made the most of the onboard meal - stuffing our faces, and then cracked open one of the bottles of Champaign. Daz and Nig didn't like it so I ended up drinking most of it myself! We then had a few beers, listened to the worlds worst piano player, saw a very strange band and retired for a much needed nights sleep.
