Day 2 - Thursday 2nd July
I do not know what time I woke up – just that I had a monster hang-over. Apparently there had been a large electrical storm overnight - but neither me or Nig knew anything about it!
We went for breakfast - I had a bacon sandwich and Nig just had a coffee. Then we went up on deck to try and come round a bit. It wasn't the best of days, very windy and quite cool with a little rain in the air, but being on deck was definitely making me feel a little better.
Luckily the boat had a giant chess board on the deck - so me and Nig had a few games of giant chess. I believe the score was 2-1 to me (but I'm sure Nig will correct me if I'm wrong!). Neither of us are very good at chess, but fortunately we are equally bad - so we usually have quite good games. By the end of our games we were definitely both feeling more with it.
There wasn't a lot to do on the ferry - there were a couple of bars, a casino, a cinema, and a swimming pool. We didn't want to get drunk, I'm not a gambler but the casino was closed during the day anyway, films were a bit rubbish and you can only swim for so long.
To pass a bit of time we attended the whale watching talk, as apparently we were passing through prime whale territory. The talk was OK, but claimed that there were thousands of dolphins and whales about and we were pretty much guaranteed to see them. Well that wasn't the case - during our entire voyage, the on board whale expert only saw one whale a long way in the distance and four dolphins. I certainly didn't see anything and nor did anybody around me, but I guess it did keep us occupied for a bit!
The one good film on was the new 'Star Trek'. The cinema was very small, like sitting in somebodies front room, but once the film started it was pretty good. The film was very good.
We had yet another £8.99 meal in the cafe and finished off the night was a couple of beers and retired for the night pretty early at around 11:30pm.
